Background
WICAfrica was born out of necessity—and possibility. In 2023, we launched as a bold response to the glaring gender imbalance in Africa’s creative education and industries. With only 25% female enrollment in creative courses at the time, we knew change was overdue.
Women In Creativity Africa (WICA) has one clear mission: to close the gender gap in Africa’s creative education and industries. We are building a future where women are not only participants but leaders, innovators, and decision-makers in the creative economy.
When we began, only 25% of students enrolled in creative programs at TAF College were women. Through intentional advocacy, mentorship, and strategic partnerships, that number rose to 65% by 2025—a tangible sign of what’s possible when women are given the tools, opportunities, and visibility they deserve.

"Before WICAfrica, I never imagined a future for myself in the creative industry. I had the passion but no access—no tools, no mentorship, and definitely no platform. That changed the moment I became a WICA beneficiary. I received a scholarship to study Content Creation, got paired with a mentor who believed in me, and showcased my work in front of real industry leaders. Today, I’m not just creating—I’m getting paid for my ideas. WICA didn’t just change my path—it helped me find my voice."
